Exploration #3e1: State Standards

The Education World: State Standards site provides easy access to the History Social Sciences Standards for most of the fifty states. Click on the link below, select your state from the drop down menu and then click on the Find button. Next click on the Social Sciences, Social Studies, or History link. You can also click on the Social Sciences link and then on the name of your state. In most cases, you will be taken to your State Department of Education web site.

The Developing Educational Standards site (hosted by the Wappingers Central School District) provides another avenue for locating your State Department of Education site and State Social Science Standards. Click on the link below and then on the "by subject" or "by State" links to navigate the site.

Note: If your State does currently have History/Social Science Standards, contact me via e-mail and we will arrange an alternate assignment.

Spend some time exploring your state's History/Social Science Standards with a primary focus on the grade level that you teach. You may also want to explore the grade levels above and below your grade level.

In the reflection activity that follows, you will be asked to identify one specific standard that will serve as the focus of your research and project later in the course.

You will want to add this site to your bookmarks/favorites list for future reference. This link will open in a new browser window. Click the close button to close the browser window and return to this page when you are finished.

Note: Often, the actual Standards document will be delivered to you as an Adobe Acrobat document. You will need the Adobe Acrobat Reader software to view the Standards document. If you do not already have that software installed on your computer, you can download the free software at the site below.
