Evaluating web resources
It has been estimated that more than half of the content available on the web has been developed by web users and not by the traditional content developers/publishers.
Because the resources your web searching locates come from a variety of sources, some more reputable than others, evaluating web resources is a key issue in web searching.
The books and journal articles found in a traditional library have generally gone through an extensive editorial or review process before being placed on the shelves. This has often not been the case with resources found on the web.
While the tried and true methods reference librarians have used to evaluate print materials still apply in most cases, there are new criteria that must be considered.
In this next activity, you will explore several websites that examine the topic of evaluating web resources. Open your digital logbook and record your observations as you proceed. You may find it helpful to cut and paste text from the web browser into your logbook.
