Using Alternate Browsers Which Block Pop-Up Ads

Pop-up ads are often the source of distracting and/or educationally inappropriate web content. This year in the computer lab, we will be using the Mozilla and Firefox web browsers. Both effectively block pop-up ads and allow additional privacy settings. You might want to consider installing one or more of these web browsers on your home computer.

Mozilla (Open Source Version of Netscape)

Firefox - Windows 98/2000/XP & Mac OS X

Mozilla - Windows 98/2000/XP & Mac OS X

Safari - Mac OS X only

Windows Users:

The latest Windows XP Service Pack 2 promises to add pop-up blocking to the Internet Explorer web browser. If you have not installed Windows XP Service Pack 2 or if you are running earlier versions of Windows (98, ME, 2000) you might want to consider installing a third-party pop-up blocker. I have used and recommend:

Google Toolbar: Windows 98/2000/XP only
