Exporting Chrome Bookmarks (PC and Mac)

Note: These instructions are written for the current version of the Chrome web browser. If you are still using an earlier version check the Chrome help files for specific instructions for your version.

  1. Click on the Customize and control Google Chrome menu (the litle icon with three horizontal lines on the right side near the top) and select Bookmarks and then click on Bookmark manager.
  2. In the window that appears, click on Organize and then click on Export Bookmarks to HTML.
  3. When the Save dialog box appears, select the Desktop as the destination for the file.
  4. Now, change the default bookmarks or bookmarks.html file name to your first initial followed by your last name and the suffix .htm or .html (example: bjost.htm or bjost.html).

Important Note: Use only lower-case letters. Do not use any spaces and be sure that the file type/format is set to HTML.

  5. Save the renamed bookmarks file. Close the Bookmarks manager window and then close Chrome.
  6. Navigate to the desktop where you saved the exported bookmarks file and double-click to open it. You should see your entire Bookmarks file displayed as a webpage on your screen. Clicking on the links should take you to the associated webpage.
  7. You will notice that this process exported your entire Bookmarks list. If you want to remove some of the bookmarks, try using your word processor. Most recent word processors can open and edit webpages. Give your's a try. Just be sure to save the edited Bookmarks list as a .htm or .html (webpage) file. Check your word processor's help files for more information.
  8. You are now ready to send me your exported bookmarks as an email attachment. See the directions below if you need them.

Next: Send the Exported Favorities as an E-mail Attachment
