Finding More Resources on the Web

In the previous online explorations, you explored dozens of websites with resources appropriate for classroom use. As you may have guessed, there are millions more out there on the web. How do you find them?

Unlike the libraries of our childhood, the web doesn't have a card catalog. There is no master plan that organizes all the information on the web.

Fortunately, there are online tools available that can be of assistance. The next activities will guide you in an exploration of these tools.

You will explore Search Engines, Web Indexes, Parallel Search Engines and Web Directories.

Earlier in the course you identified a specific content standard related to your classroom curriculum. Using this topic as the focal point of your research would be an excellent way to gather more resources that will be of use in your classroom. If you feel that you have exhausted your original topic(s) at any point in this next series of online explorations, you can select another topic of interest.

Continue adding relevant sites to your Bookmarks/Favorites. Record your observations and reflections in the Logbook as you complete this next series of online explorations.

Next: Search Engines
