Unit Title: Charlotte Web Literature Lesson

Objectives: Students will read with understanding and fluency

Il state standards 1A1a students will apply word analysis (phonics/word patterns)

1A2a students will read and comprehend words

 

Materials/resources needed: Chapter book "Charlotte Web", index cards, pencil, colored pencils, large white paper, computer

 

Anticipatory Set: Students will be excited looking at pictures of farm animals, making a game, and watching the movie at the completion of the unit

 

Objective/Purpose: Students will increase vocabulary knowledge

 

Input: Teacher will model words and meanings in context

 

Model: Read aloud text, model vocabulary words on index cards side 1 word/picture side 2 meaning

 

Check for Understanding: Observations, shared reading/discussions, pictures

 

Guided Practice: Teacher will read aloud, students will partner read

 

Closure: Students will make a game board of the novel Charlottes Web using learned vocabulary from the novel. Students will play the game.
