Beth Trefezger: INT 925 Project #2

Lesson Plan for Illinois State Standard 1A (Apply word analysis and vocabulary skills to comprehend selections.)

Purpose: This activity will be used by high school student volunteers working one on one with special education kindergarten children. The interactive games offer repetition and re-teaching of high frequency words, alphabetic knowledge and phonemic awareness. Visual, auditory, and tactile learning channels are all incorporated.

 Directions:

Go to the Mrs. Alphabet Website at http://www.mrsalphabet.com/ (look under favorites.)

Click on "The Alphabet Team," then click on "More Alphabet Games and Links.

Each child needs to begin with Fry's 300 Instant Word List. (Scroll down about halfway.) Use the First Hundred List. Have the child read the words that he or she can and then echo read the rest.

Group A students are working on alphabet skills. Select games from the A list for these kids. Group P students are working on phonemic awareness skills. Select games from the P list for these kids.

***Do not move to another choice until the child has completed the game. This is a fun way to learn, but not playtime on the computer!!
