The WWW Virtual Library

This web directory was founded by Tim Berners-Lee (the guy who "invented" the World Wide Web) and dates back to the early 1990's. It is one of the first attempts to assign some order to the chaotic World Wide Web. It is maintained by a distributed group of representatives from colleges and universities around the world.

Click here to open the WWW Virtual Library in a new browser window.

Click on several of the categories and subcategories and see what you can find.

Notice that each of the subcategories is maintained by a different university. The WWW Virtual Library just provides a clearinghouse for this distributed collection of web directories.
